If you find that you can
not fix the problem on your own by using the some of my
below suggesting and you send me an E-mail, I will be more
than happy to help you if I can, but you need three things
for me to help:
(1) An available phone
(2) Remote Access (xp users)
(3) A time for me to call
you
Often I will suggest we
work out the problem via a phone call because I can watch
you log on the server and see problems as the administrator
you don't see as the user. If you do send me an e-mail for
help make sure you are available by giving me a time to
call. In many cases I will be able to help right away, but
sometimes I get busy at work and it may be a day or two
before I have time.
I have free long distance
calling to the US AND CANADA. Generally the fix is only
a few minutes away if we work together. My goal is to get
on on the server fast and to keep you on it with little
to no problems. I am more than willing to help you do that
the best I can.
One of the newest problems
cropping up is being able to log on and not seeing my list
of shows. This is a FIREWALL or SECURITY CENTER problem.
Your firewall is blocking my INFORMATION PACKETS from being
received back into your computer. In a nutshell both systems
MUST SPEAK to each other and answer each other each time
they request information. When you log on, your system requests
mine to send you the list, I get the request and send out
what you requested, but your system can not SEE IT because
your firewall is blocking port 21. You can correct this
in one of two ways, open your firewall(s) and change the
system to recognize your ftp program or unblock its access
to PORT 21. You can manually allow port 21 to open up you
will need to OPEN TCP (IN) AND UDP (OUT) to ensure you are
getting out. I suggest the you try the first part first
and allow the firewall to see your ftp program. Use the
second suggestion if the firewall is not seeing or ignoring
your ftp program..
Here are some more suggesting
Problems logging on can be
listed into FOUR categories:
You have the wrong or outdated
logon information
Your computer is stopping
PACKETS from entering into or exiting out of your system
to mine. Packets are clumps of information that transmit information
from my system to yours and visa versa. (Usually a firewall
issue)
You have PASSIVE
MODE turned on (your FTP program's setting)
My server
is OFF LINE (Please contact me immediately if you see it
is)
Check the ICON in the upper
right hand corner. Is it showing the SERVER is on line?
If it says “I’M Online”, that means that the server is up
and running.
The problem of you not being
able to log on is most likely something else.
If it say OFF LINE please let me know, but do not click
on the icon to send me a IM, I will not receive it. Please
send it to my e mail address randysotr@charter.net
Here are some thing to check
if you see the server is on line and you STILL can not log
on.
ü Make
sure PASSIVE MODE is turned off in your FTP PROGRAM. I do
not allow passive mode connections to the server
ü Check
Your Firewall settings to make sure you have your FTP PROGRAM
LISTED to allow it access to the Internet.
These settings can change Automatically if you have
installed a security program or updated your system. This is the #1 Reason log on fail.
If you do not see your FTP PROGRAM in the firewall settings
then depending on your firewall you might be able to edit
the program to allow it access to the Internet. If that
does not seem to work, I recommend you do a test by turning
off ALL your firewalls (some people run two or more) and
then try to access my FTP site. If you LOG ON and can see
MY FILES then you know your firewall is the problem. If
you still can not LOGON or see any SHOWS on my server, its
is probably something else. Contact me, I can usually fix
the problem, but we will need to be on the phone and you
will need a connection to the Internet.
ü Have
you changed Internet. Service Providers lately? Some automatically block Port 21. If you are using a MICROWAVE wireless system, you cannot use
this site. In a
nutshell, you must upload and download on the same IP ADDRESS. Most MICROWAVE wireless systems require
two IP address, one for input and the second one for output.
My system can not support this requirement..
ü Your
log on info is incorrect or not the same as what I have.
Double check, if unsure just let me know and I will
send it to you.
ü Check
your connection to the Internet to verify you are on line. Do a Google search or a Yahoo search
to see if results come up.
If so you are on line. Don't just go to Google,
so a search for something and look for results.
ü Contact
me for help, I will be more than happy to help you get back
on line, . If you don't have free
long distance and you are in the US or CANADA I will be
more than happy to call you. I have been solving FTP logon
problem for over 7 years and so far I am batting 98
% in being able to get users downloading.
