'Your Gateway to the Greatest Old Time Radio Shows of Yesteryear'

Why does you site cost to download fromBecause it costs me money to bring it to you. I am not looking to make a profit on the site, only to bring in enough money each month to pay for the expense of hosting the site. This site is run on a shoe-string budget and your support is greatly needed and appreciated.

Whats the difference between the FTP DOWNLOADING Account and WEB PAGE DOWNLOADING Account?

FTP downloading requires you to install a seperate program that allows you to SEE into my computer almost as if it was your own. When you log on you will see directories like you would see in your own computer, while WEB Page downloading you see only a Web page I set up with links for you to download, other than your Internet browser no other program is required.

Is that the only difference between the two accounts to access the shows.

No, with an FTP you pay by the GB and have the ability to download at T-1 speeds or as fast as your ISP or internet traffic allows you to download. You must also share the T-1 with all users on the system, but you have full access to almost 60.000 shows on the server and with the right FTP program you can QUE up shows and download all day and all night if you choose.

With an Web Based download account you can download an unlimited number of shows can for 30 days at one low price The speed is slower than the T-1 and you must share it between all web page downloader on the system at the same time. You will only see what shows I have linked for you to download. I will be adding new shows every day. You can imagine with 60,000 shows its going to take me a while to link up all the shows so they can be downloaded. Your downloading selecton will not be as large as you would get with the FTP account.
Are any of your shows under copyright? I do my best to ensure that each show put on this site is no longer under copyright protection and is in the public domain.
I signed up for a FREE FTP ACCOUNT why cant I download? Every time I try I get an error or a show that is Zero in size. You can download as long as you are in the FREEBIE directory. Did you move out of the directory and look around? There are only 18 shows you can download for FREE. If you go anywhere else, you can view the shows, it will look like you are downloading but you wont be
I have lots of shows you dont have would you like some? The idea of this site is to make available as many OTR shows as possiable so YES any that are not on the server is you are more than welcome to upload. To upload you must have a PAID FTP ACCOUNT. I do not trade via the mail. I am rather strick on what you may and may not upload, I will explain all this when you request an uploading account, if you agree, I will be more than happy to set the account up for you. For each Mb you upload you get a Mb back in downloading credits. If I see you are not using the uploading account, i will remove it for housekeeping sakes.
How much do your accounts cost? As of this writing a FTP account is 7.00 per gb of credits. with price breaks as you buy more credits at one time. I am still working on the Web page download site, so at this time, I have not come up with a cost.
How do I know when my money has been received and my account credited? With the FTP account you can see your credits each time you log on, Accounts are good for one year from the last date of purchase. with the WEB Page downloading account, its good for 30 days after that you will need to pay again to keep the account going for an additional 30 days
How much is a GB? A GB is 1,000,000 KBytes. Although it can vary and does, a 30 minute show on my site is around 6 1/2 MB is size. If you you put that in bytes it would be 6500. If you divide 6500 into 1,000,000 you will get 153.8 30 minute shows. So for $7.00 you can expect to get somewhere around 100-120 1/2 hours shows. Now not all my 30 minute minute shows are that small, some are smaller, and some are larger, how many shows you get depends on how they were encoded. The length of the shows also dictates how large the files are.
What kind of quality are the shows on the site? This is really a difficult question to answer. We are in tune to stereo sounds and speakers of today. One of the problems is that when we listen to the sounds of yester-year we forget that audio radio waves have improved in leaps and bounds. We expect to hear the shows from the 40's to sound like we might expect to hear on toady's radios. I am no audio technician, nor do I have the time to listen to all my shows. I make this guarantee: All my shows are of good enough quality to listen to, if not I will remove it from the site and give you credit for that show downloaded back to your account. Now what is good quality to some may not be to others. I have and will continue to remove shows that I feel are poor quality, when reported to me and I listen to them and agree. But I will not remove a show because it has crackles or pops in it from its original recording. If you feel you have received a poor quality show, let me know, I will listen to it and let you know if I agree with you. 99 percent of the time a show is reported as bad, I remove the show and credit the account or return the customer's money. You are my ears. And I appreciate all the help I receive to keep the shows good quality. If you seea [rotrs] in the title, it means that I have listened to at least the first five minutes of the show and that five minutes met my approval. I will continue to do my best to weed out bad quality shows.
I am looking for a certain actor in a certain show from a certain date, can you find it for me? I can, but I have created places on the web page YOU find that information yourself. I deal with a lot of people every day and although I can answer general questions it is difficult to answer questions in detail. On the site is a catalog, if you download it you will have all the information at your hands I do. All my shows are listed in that catalog. By using the find feature in your program you opened the catalog up and search for any show you are looking for. Try finding it yourself, if you cant find it, then I will be glad to look for you, but it may take a while for me to answer you back.
What is the hours of operations for the FTP server Web page? 24 hours 7 days a week, the site never closes and most times you can find me working on the site and server.
How do I know the server is and web pages is up?In November of 2006 I moved all web pages to my server. If you can log on to my web pages, they you can be assured my server is up and running and you should be able to download with no problems. There are conditions that allow you to see the WEB Page, be able to download from the WEB Page but not the server. While they are on the same computer, they are run by two different programs. If you are not able to see the WEB page chances the server itself is down.
Can I log in more than once to the ftp site? Yes as many times as you like and what the program you are using will allow. I have no restrictions. But if you abuse the system by HAMMERING it. I will kick you out and limit your connections. Hammering is where you keep trying to access they sytem without actually logging on. This can be because the show no longer exists or you have run out of credits.
I am logged in but I cant get my maximum speed. There may be several reasons for this. One is the number of users on the site. Remember this is site has a limited amount of bandwidth available even though its a T-1 Line and it can get very busy at times. Other reasons for it is with your ISP and your connection. If you cant get the speed you think you should have, re-log on later, if that don't work let me know and I will see if its anything on my end, but generally there is nothing I can do. For faster speed, log on during the over night times when the server is slow. Remember I am on Eastern US time
Every time I log on and click a file or directory, it say no such file or directory? Make sure you have "Cashe" turned off. If you like the speed "Cashe" give you, then you MUST refresh often. Cashe puts a file on your computer that it reads to "load" the ftp program. It is updated every time you go into a NEW directory but it assumes the previously views directory has not changed. It is a good way to go when you are using a site that does not change often, but because I am always moving, renaming or deleting programs, the site is in a state of flux and if you log into a directory that has been changed or deleted you will end up getting errors if you don't constantly refresh your files. Can I use any FTP program and do you support them?
Can I use any FTP program and do you support them? You can use any program you like, but some just don't work with my server. Because there are so many out there, I have limited myself to working with only FILEZILLA. It is a free program and free is good!
