Thanks! Don't worry about it; I appreciate what you're doing (in case people don't tell you that enough)!

11-05-2005 I received this e mail from a NEW member of about 2 weeks. He had asked for a uploading account:

Randy, I'm sorry , but I will be trading my OTR gems with someone else. You put too many stipulations on what you receive. I am addicted to OTR and I feel that any OTR in my collection is good OTR to have and I don't put any stipulations on it. I just want to keep receiving it, and honor what I've enjoyed as a boy up til now at 27 yrs old. I'm only sorry that there's people like you out there charging $7.00 a gig to enjoy it and treating it as more of a business than a special thing. I've thought of selling to people but it doesn't seem right, and I guarantee I have the stock to sell. I hate that everything pure has to be defiled into big business. Have a good day.

My Response (edited)

No problem I understand you feelings But let me say this....

With the kind of money that is put out each month for this site, it has to be treated like a business. Like it or not. No money No site, Its just that simple. I make no profit on this "Business". It would be nice, but there is just no profit in it at all. When I say no profit I mean Zero. Last month I went 23.00 in the hole, don't sound too much like a business to me. I drive a 1995 Escort wagon, my wife drives a 1995 Windstar Van we bought in 1994 If it were a business those would be 2006 cars I can guarantee you. Yes I am VERY restrictive on what can be uploaded. I don't want junk up there, and given the chance many would and have upload JUNK. The rules I have come up with are from years of experience. I have many users who upload and never pay a dime to download because they upload what they need to download. They understand the rules and follow them with little to no problems. I still have members who started in the first two years of the site paid 3.00 and never a cent more, Yet 5 years later they are still sipping on that first GB they bought. Most other site would have dumped their accounts by now. I am not sure what you mean by OTR is a special thing.... . I offer a service, a place where someone can go to find all the OTR they want without spending hours on the net each night searching. A place where you are certain to find what you are looking for without the hassles of the search, or the dangers of getting a virus. You pay for the service, the convenience and the confidence that the site is secure and virus free. Nothing more, and if the shows are wrong, mislabeled or has an audio problem, I am happy to credit the persons account back not just what the file was but 3 times the amount. I offer a place where my word as a gentleman means something. You cant find that on the free sites or forums. You get what you get. I too went to all the free places, I traded with others and I used the forum in my first years. I got dupes, mislabeled files, wrong files, files with no audio, files of vulgar screaming, and tons on viruses. I got files that played fast, played slow, has people talking in the background and my share of files with audio problems. My helper and myself spend all day every day and most evening listening to shows and editing shows. The whole community is plagued with mislabeled episodes ranging from the simple wrong dates to totally wrong shows. Not to mention the quality of shows that leave a lot to be desired. We spend up to 18 hours a day trying to fix the garbage that floats out there on free sites and forums. Its a never ending job. If you think I just place the shows on the server and sit by my computer wrenching my hands counting the money you are mistaken, mostly I sit at the computer typing, Calling to the US and Canada at my own expense to help with tech support, listening to episodes, editing titles and audio content plus biting my nails because bills are due in less then two weeks and so far I have brought in 76.00.

I have spent countless hours helping many of the OTR members of this site with NON related OTR computer problems. Not to mention the occasional road trip I take to personally help Members whos computer crash and they cant afford to have some one fix it. And I will continue to do so until the site closes. My site is not for everybody. I thank you very much for the $25.00 you paid last month, it helped support the site so I can continue for at least one more month to bring to those who want it a site where OTR enthusiasts can find as many OTR shows in one place at one time.

4-24-06: A recent email from n a newer member brought to my attention that he was upset with me because I convert my files to 40 kbps instead of the perceived "STANDARD" of 32kbps. His email seem to indicate he felt cheated and stated he goes to other sites to see if he can find the same file at a smaller bit rate.

It is true that I do convert as many files as I can to to 40 kbps. I do this for a couple reasons. I first began this practice in 1997 because many of the older audio programs I had did not play mp3's below 40 kbps. At 32 Kbps the quality of the files begins to suffer, while not much at 32 it is noticeable. Anything below 32 kbps greatly reduces the quality. I do convert files of 24 kbps to 40 but anything below that I delete, they suffer irreversible quality reduction and are just unsatisfactory in quality.

When you buy one gb you get about 85 to 125 shows, it depends on how it was edited. Some 30 minute files are really only 21 minutes in length because all the commercials were cut out, while others are almost 30 minutes to beyond. Unless a show has the Pitch changed and it runs fast or slow or the audio is very low and I am forced to fix the file someone else and bumbled, bumping up the bit rate is all I do to improve quality.

While many other sites leave files at 32 kbps they also leave them at 56 kbps, 64 kbps and 128 kbps plus they will pawn off 16 or 8 kbps as being good files. If you ever heard a show that sounds like it was recorded in a garbage can, its is or was once down graded to a 16 or 8 kbps file.

This member like others are welcomed to visit and purchase credits from other site. They have the choice to give their money to whom they wish. I feel my site is one step above many of the other sites, true its not automated like many. I prefer the hands on touch. I am available most days for up to 18 hours to personally handle your questions and problems. Have a bad file download, in most cases I give the credit right back with no questions or hassles. Upload a file, I give immediate credit for the upload. Need an advance on credits, all an existing member has to do is ask. Have a problem downloading or with any other program, I am more than willing to help if I can. Some sites believe YOU are responsible for your credits and downloading them, not me, its my responsibility to see you get them, and to that end I will do what ever I can to see you get what you paid for, all you need to do is work fully with me to solve the problem, if we cant, I gladly refund your money or burn you disks to cover your payments.

My shows may be a little higher in kbps which makes the files a little bigger in size, but you wont find a OTR site that would rather give back to you all your money then have you dissatisfied with the site.
